All natural health treatments, whether they involve dietary changes, vitamin or herbal supplementation, detoxification therapies, or bodywork, focus on removing the disease causing agents using the body’s own power of healing. We are here to help put the body back into its normal balance through addressing muscle tension, stress management and more. This process often brings on an unpleasant reaction known as the ‘healing crisis’. It is also known as the Herxheimer Reaction.
The Herxheimer reaction can be difficult to pinpoint because symptoms can be different amongst every individual that experiences it. For example, it can be feelings of elation followed by a day or two of very low moods or a headache or upset stomach. A healing crisis includes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual/energetic components so depending on how your body reacts will depend on what symptoms (if any) you get.
The most common experience of this reaction is when a person takes a break from their normal fast paced life such as when they break up for a holiday or Christmas and that person always get sick or catch a cold. It is the body trying desperately to catch up with itself and heal in the time you are not working or doing your other daily commitments that take up energy. Whereas if you were aiming for having the balance right all the time via nutrition, regular treatments, exercise and stress management this would not likely happen as much or if at all.
All complementary therapy treatments work in some way that promotes the body’s own lymphatic system so they help perpetuate the moving of physical toxins in the body that have built up and also depending on what the practitioner users energetically levels can be worked on and in products essential oils come into the blood stream and work on a cellular level in the body. All of this activates the body to increase its own healing capabilities and detoxification processes which is why people can be thirsty or needing the toilet a lot after treatment.
If you think you may be experiencing a healing crisis then contact your practitioner and they can guide you on the best way to help ease symptoms. Please do not discontinue with your healing journey or treatment programme, all therapists do is amplify and support your natural ability to heal on all levels; mental, physical, emotional and spiritual.
